One of the two major releases of Independence Day, Akshay Kumar starrer Gold was opened on an exceptional note and passed the 5-days extended opening weekend excellently despite a major drop in footfalls on the second day. Now it has entered on weekdays, due to positive word of mouth, it still has a good hold over the multiplex audience.
Based on India’s first Olympic medal as an independent nation, Gold is directed by Reema Kagti and got succeed to hit the target right. It received mostly positive reviews from the critics as well as the audience because of its strong content and outstanding performances from the entire cast that includes Akshay Kumar, Mouni Roy, Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Kumar Singh & Sunny Kaushal.
Produced by Excel Entertainment, this sports drama took a superb start across the country and did the business of 25.25 crores on Wednesday. With this, it has become the 3rd highest opener of the year so far and biggest one of Akshay Kumar’s career. On Thursday, it witnessed a drop of 67.92% and minted the amount of 8.10 crores.
After that, Gold managed to rise gradually over the weekend and raked the business of 10.10 crores on Friday, 12.30 crores on Saturday & 15.55 crores on Sunday. After the opening weekend, the total collection of the movie was recorded at 71.30 crores nett from 3050 screens.
Now it has stepped-in on weekdays and faced a drop of 50.62% than Thursday and collected the amount of 4 crores. With this, its total collection after 6 days has become 75.30 crores nett (96.86 crores gross) at the domestic box office.
