Citylights Saturday Box Office Report

Two controlled budget films arrive this weekend – Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi and Citylights. None of the two films boast of any star quotient, though they are backed by producers like Ekta Kapoor/Bejoy Nambiar and Mukesh Bhatt/Fox respectively. In terms of target audience, both films are primarily aiming for multiplex audiences and talking about the Citylights, it has found greater reach in Mumbai and South. Citylights is based on the life of a farmer from Rajasthan who moves to Mumbai along with his family hoping for a better life. The movie revolves around the challenges they face and their rendezvous with the big city. The movie eventually takes a turn and shows how the family rises up to face the hardships they are exposed to in the city, strengthened by the power of their love for each other.  Audience has showed decent response of Citylights in comparison to other released flicks yesterday. Audience found it as an adaptation of a British- Filipino Indie crime drama, made in Hansal Mehta’s style. It is laced with ironic situations and context and remains a poignant and dark story.

Citylights Second Day Box Office Collection

The film is being appreciated enough for its emotions and performances by the star cast which connects with the audience. On its 2nd day of release Citylights has done a fair job and collected overall 1.32 Crores which is good. That’s how Mehta manages to keep his audience hooked with his touch of irony and a lot of plot twists. It is not a movie where you can put your legs up and munch on tubs of popcorn. It is a dark, depressing film and has a deep emotional impact on the viewers. Watch it only if you can appreciate some quality cinema and real film making.
