Box Office Records Set by Rajkumar Hirani – Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju so far

From the makers of highly applauded movies Munna Bhai MBBS, 3 Idiots, and PK, Sanju has got succeed to impress the audience as well as the critics. With positive reactions from the viewers, this biographical drama based on the life of Indian actor Sanjay Dutt has gained a strong word of mouth.

Directed by the ace filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, Sanju starring the powerhouse of talent Ranbir Kapoor along with very fine actors like Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Dia Mirza, Manisha Koirala, Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, and Jim Sarbh in pivotal roles.

For the brilliant performances given by all the actors especially Ranbir and the flawless execution by Raju Hirani, Dutt biopic has made a solid impact on viewers and received quite positive feedback worldwide. As a result, from the very first day of release, it is setting new records at the box office.

On the first opening day, Sanju took a massive start of 34.75 crores and registered the highest opening of the year and the 6th highest of all time in Hindi cinema. It has also become the biggest opener for Ranbir Kapoor and Rajkumar Hirani.

On the second day, it showed a healthy jump and reported the highest day-2 collection of the year with 38.60 crores. Then with a further growth on its third day, the movie registered the highest single day ever in the history of Hindi cinema with 46.71 crores. It has also become the 2nd fastest 100-crore grosser of all time after Baahubali 2 Hindi.

After a phenomenal run over 3-days, Sanju reported the highest opening weekend collection of the year and 4th highest of all time with 120.06 crores. In the list of top first 3-days collection records, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s production has acquired the second place after Baahubali 2 Hindi (128 crores).

On weekdays, with a solid pace, Ranbir Kapoor starrer created the record of year’s highest first-Monday and 6th highest of all time in Hindi cinema with 25.35 crores. Following the same trend, Sanju registered the highest Tuesday (22.10 crores), Wednesday (18.90 crores), and Thursday (16.10 crores) of the year.

After 7 days, Fox Star Studios’ presentation has become the 3rd fastest 200-crore grosser of all time after Baahubali 2 Hindi & Tiger Zinda Hai and also the highest grosser of Ranbir Kapoor’s career by surpassing the lifetime total of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (188.57 crores).

With an exceptional run throughout, Sanju has registered the highest opening week (non-holiday) of the year and 4th highest of all time after Baahubali 2 Hindi (247 crores / non-holiday), Sultan (229.16 crores / 9-days / Eid) & Tiger Zinda Hai (206.04 crores / Christmas).

Over the second weekend as well, Ranbir Kapoor starrer showed a remarkable performance and become the 9th highest grosser of all time in Hindi Cinema by surpassing the lifetime total of Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish 3 (244.92 crores).

By remaining impressive throughout, on its 3rd Saturday, Sanju has joined the 300-crore club at the domestic box office and become the 6th highest grosser of all time in Hindi Cinema by dominating Sultan (300.45 crores) and Padmaavat (302.15 crores).

On its 3rd Tuesday, the movie has become the 5th highest grosser of all time in Hindi Cinema by dominating the record of Salman Khan’s blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan (320.34 crores).

Being unaffected by the new releases, Sanju surpassed the lifetime total of Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai (339.16 crores) on its 5th Sunday and become the 4th highest grosser of all time in Hindi cinema.

With the end of its fifth week, it has become the 3rd highest grossing Hindi film of all time after Baahubali 2 (Hindi) & Dangal by surpassing the lifetime total of Aamir Khan’s blockbuster PK (340.80 crores).
