Now with every single day, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat is setting a new record at the box office. After crossing the mark of 200-crore domestically and 400-crore globally, this epic period drama has surpassed the lifetime total of Shahrukh Khan starrer 2013’s Chennai Express (227.13 crores) within just 14 days of release.
Starring Bollywood’s one of the most popular actresses Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, Padmaavat was released around a couple of weeks ago. Surrounded by numerous controversies since it went on floors, the film gained huge hype and as a result, opened to an excellent note despite non-screening in several major states of India.
With its larger-than-life visuals and outstanding performances by all the actors, specially Ranveer, Bhansali’s directorial received huge appreciation from viewers. Due to positive word of mouth, it remained strong throughout the opening week and did the business of 166.50 crores that included 114 crores of 4-days weekend and 52.50 crores of weekdays.
In the second weekend as well, Padmaavat showed rock-steady performance and raked the business of 46 crores that included 10 crores of Friday, 16 crores of Saturday and 20 crores of Sunday. Then in weekdays, due to normal working days, it started getting lesser footfalls in theaters but still heading smoothly.
On 2nd Monday with a drop of 30% than Friday, Padmaavat minted the amount of 7 crores. By dropping down further, it garnered the business of 6 crores on 2nd Saturday and 5.50 crores on 2nd Wednesday. With this, the film has raised its 14 days total collection to 231 crores at the domestic box office and emerged 10th highest grosser of all time in Hindi cinema.
