After the release of it’s trailer, Indu Sarkar garnered huge appreciation but unfortunately got failed to attract enough audience towards theaters despite getting almost positive reviews. Everyone was having good expectations with it earlier, but in actual all have got disappointment.
Set against the backdrop of Emergency period in India during the year 1975-1977, Madhur Bhandarkar’s directorial starring Kirti Kulhari, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Anupam Kher, Tota Roy Chowdhury in pivotal roles. It shows the dark side of Indira Gandhi’s government, which was in rule at that time.
On the opening day, Indu Sarkar recorded poor occupancy across the country and did the business of only 0.85 crore from 825 screens, while the last week’s Lipstick Under My Burkha did 1.22 crore from 400 screens.
On Saturday, the film remained dull and bagged the amount of 0.95 crore with slight growth than Friday. Then on Sunday being holiday, Indu Sarkar witnessed little more drop and minted the amount of 1.10 crore. With this, it’s opening weekend total collection has become 2.90 crores.
On the other hands, another Hindi release Raag Desh is directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and this one also got failed at box office despite positive reviews of critics. Based on the joint court martial of three Indian National Army officers, it stars Mohit Marwah, Kunal Kapoor and Amit Sadh.
On the opening day, Raag Desh recorded limited footfalls in theaters and did the business of 0.14 crore. Then with slight increase in occupancy, it raked the business of 0.15 crore on Saturday and 0.18 crore on Sunday.
After the opening day, total collection of Raag Desh is recorded as 0.47 crore. While the Punjabi film Vekh Baraatan Challiyan alone has registered higher business of 4.60 crores at box office in the weekend than the combined business of these two; Indu Sarkar and Raag Desh.
