Superstar Akshay Kumar’s latest film Gold has shown an excellent performance in the 9-days extended opening week despite having another awaited Hindi offering Satyameva Jayate of John Abraham in its parallel. The sports drama based on true events has now entered in the second week and have two more new films- Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi & Genius in the competition.
Directed by Reema Kagti, Gold is based on India’s first Olympic gold medal as an independent nation. For its solid content and commendable performance by the entire cast, the film has received mostly positive reviews from the critics as well as the audience and gained a good word of mouth.
Ritesh Sidhwani & Farhan Akhtar’s production was released on Independence Day and due to a national holiday, it opened on an exceptional note. By maintaining a good pace, the film did the business of 71.30 crores in the 5-days extended opening weekend, that included 25.25 crores on Wednesday, 8.10 crores on Thursday, 10.10 crores on Friday, 12.30 crores on Saturday, and 15.55 crores on Sunday.
Then on weekdays, Gold managed to collect the amount of 4 crores on Monday, 4.60 crores on Tuesday, 6.10 crores on 2nd Wednesday, and 3.30 crores on 2nd Thursday. After the prolonged first week, its total collection was recorded at 89.30 crores at the domestic box office from 3050 screens.
Now AA Films’ presentation has stepped-in the second weekend on a steady note. On 2nd Friday, Gold has faced a drop of around 47% than the previous day and minted the amount of 1.75 crores. With this, its total domestic collection after 10 days has become 91.05 crores nett.
