Superstar Akshay Kumar & Parineeti Chopra starrer Kesari has got succeed to impress everyone in theatres and also running strongly at the box office, but definitely, it could have performed better if IPL 2019 wasn’t happening in the parallel. Although, within 6 days of release, the film has dominated Luka Chuppi (89.38 crores till its 4th weekend).
Directed by Anurag Singh who delivered critically acclaimed Punjabi war drama Punjab 1984 in 2014, Kesari has gathered very positive reactions from the critics as well as the audience and gained a solid word of mouth. Everyone liked the work of Anurag & also praising Akshay for his brilliant performance.
The Hindi period war drama was opened at a decent note on Thursday in the morning due to the Holi festivities, but later picked up superbly and registered the biggest opening of the year so far. With a fantastic start, it also emerged as the second highest Hindi opener for Akshay Kumar.
Due to positive feedback, Kesari remained super strong over the 4-days extended weekend and did the business of 78.07 crores which included 21.06 crores on Thursday, 16.75 crores on Friday, 18.75 crores on Saturday & 21.51 crores on Sunday from 3600 screens across the country.
Now, Zee Studios’ presentation is running on weekdays and recorded a major drop in footfalls due to the ongoing IPL 2019. On Monday, it faced a dip of 50.75% vis-a-vis Friday and minted 8.25 crores. With further decline, Kesari managed to collect 7.17 crores on Tuesday and raised its 6 days total collection to 93.49 crores nett at the domestic box office.
