I know some critics might not like this film for their own reasons. But if you are really looking for an International standard Hindi film? “I” fits the bill correct. I is directed by ace director Shankar. After reading some anti favorable reviews about the film, I decided to watch the film in Cinema. Trust me, The people were enjoying the film to the core.
Why other Critics never liked the film? I read somewhere someone mentioned that he was expecting a typical Shankar film where a common man stands up against corruption and takes on the system. Just like the directors earlier films such as Hindustani, Nayak The Real Hero, Aparichit (Again with actor Vikram) and Sivaji The Boss. Give him a break guys, He also made the money spinner Humse Hai Muqabla long back remember? Well, That was a musical romantic film! Aren’t you tired watching the same story over and over again?
Some also said the film is “Draggy”. Agreed! But it keeps you hooked with it’s brilliant visuals. And you require sometime to explain the characters and the scientific experiments right?
Lingesan a.k.a Lee (Vikram), a gym instructor and a Body Builder who’s in love with a top model Diya (Amy Jackson) he keeps seeing in magazines and on TV and on billboards. He just have one dream for which he is living. He wants to become Mr.Tamilnadu (Which he does). There is another top model John (Upen Patel) who has wrong feelings for Diya but she keeps on rejecting his feelings. Frustrated by this, John hatches a plan to finish Diya’s career even with her last assignment for China. Diya who is very passionate towards her career request Lee to join her in this last modelling contract which may break her or make her. Surprisingly after the last assignment, Lee becomes the Top model of the country replacing John.
Here the story takes a turn and John schemes a very different yet dangerous revenge for Lee. Lee’s world collapses and here we witness the finest work ever happened on Indian Cinema before!
Speaking of the performances, Yes! It’s Vikram who is a show stealer with his superb and mind blowing performance. Upen Patel surprises you with his acting skills and has done good justice with his part. Amy Jackson is good. Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi surprises you in this one. The transgendered stylist played by Ojas Rajani is brilliant. Comedy provided by Santhanam is amazing. Shankar is one such Film Maker of our country who shows you a dream on celluloid which you would love to live again and again.
Shankar knows his job very well as a writer and director both. He falls in the category of Rajkumar Hirani and Karan Johar who knows the pulse of audience. Music of the film is good and gels with the film’s screenplay. The Beauty and the Beast song in the end however reminded me of Meatloaf’s hit track “I would do anything for love, But I won’t do that”. The Camera work and Production Values are fantastic and stunning at the same time.
The movie I by Shankar is “Not” and Indian Film. It’s a statement from Bollywood to Hollywood that look dude.. Even we are the Creators!
