Taapsee Pannu is shooting for Sujoy Ghosh’s thriller Badla in Scotland and also stars Amitabh Bachchan. The Pink actress has been shooting for films back to back and has two films out for release within 3 weeks of each other.

Soorma which is up for release this week will see Taapsee play the character of Harpreet Kaur, an Indian field hockey player, opposite Diljit Dosanjh’s Sandeep Singh, whereas the Anubhav Sinha helmed courtroom drama, Mulk will see Taapsee play the role of a defence lawyer.

Mulk is based on one of the most controversial topics not just in India, but the world; Islamophobia. An issue as sensitive and controversial as this, a lot of people were wary about the way it would be received by the audience. However, Taapsee being the fiery woman she is, wanted things to change and therefore decided to act in the film.

She wanted to be the voice for a cause that not everyone wants to be associated with; the cause of humanity. In order to get the point of view of Muslims who are ostracized as a whole due to Islamic terrorist activities, the Naam Shabana actress wanted to work in a film that would resonate in the minds of the audience in general.

She said, ” I have grown up in an area in Delhi where I didn’t really come across many Muslims but in Mumbai my life is practically run by 3 important people who all are a part of Muslim community and I never really realised that or considered that until I started seeing people pointing it out or the world politics going bizarre.

This really made my voice my opinion through my work and hence I felt the urge to say yes to Mulk apart from the fact that Anubhav sir had beautifully crafted this story. I think it’s high time the elephant in the room is addressed”.
