Based on India’s first Olympic gold medal as an independent nation, superstar Akshay Kumar starrer Hindi movie Gold is still showing a very good hold over the multiplex audience. With a positive word of mouth, it is attracting major crowd toward itself and has joined the 100-crore club at the domestic box office.
Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner Excel Entertainment, Gold has received mostly positive reviews from the critics as well as the audience. In the 9-days extended opening week, it did the business of 89.30 crores in the 9-days extended first week, that included 71.30 crores on the 5-days weekend and 18 crores on weekdays.
Now the movie is running in the second week and on a steady note, registered the business of 9.70 crores in the weekend with 1.85 crores on 2nd Friday, 3.10 crores on 2nd Saturday & 4.75 crores on 2nd Sunday. Then on weekdays, due to normal working days, the movie faced a usual drop in footfalls and minted the amount of 1.45 crores.
On the next day i.e. 2nd Tuesday, Gold witnessed a further drop and managed to collect the amount of 1.25 crores. With this, the total collection of this sports drama after 14 days has become 101.70 crores nett from Indian screens.
On the other hand, John Abraham & Manoj Bajpayee starrer action thriller Satyameva Jayate has got succeed to entertain the audience, although it has received mixed reviews from the critics. By remaining solid throughout, it did the business of 75.09 crores with 56.91 crores on the 5-days weekend and 18.18 crores on weekdays.
In the second weekend, it collected 8.34 crores that included 1.82 crores on 2nd Friday, 2.20 crores on 2nd Saturday, and 4.32 crores on 2nd Sunday. Then on weekdays, SMJ witnessed a usual decline and minted 1.49 crores on 2nd Monday. On 2nd Tuesday, Milap Zaveri’s directorial bagged 1.46 crores and raised 14 days total collection to 86.38 crores.
