Two Hindi comedy offerings, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and Welcome To New York have been released at the box office on Friday. Among these, the former one had good pre-release buzz because of interesting promos, while the later one had an average despite the higher star power.
Starring the Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 gang that includes Kartik Aaryan, Sunny Singh, Nushrat Bharucha and Ishita Raj, director Luv Ranjan’s Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is getting mixed reviews from the critics but as expected it got succeed to entertain the audience very much.
On the first-day, this romantic comedy opened to a good note with 30-35% of occupancy across the country for morning shows. Then by witnessing good growth in footfalls over the evening and night shows, it registered slightly lower opening than 2015’s PKP 2 (6.80 crores).
Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety done the business of 6.42 crores, which is almost double than last week released Aiyaary (3.36 crores). So, as the word of mouth is favorable for SKTKS, it is positively expected to take good growth over the weekend.
On the other hand, Sonakshi Sinha, Karan Johar, and Diljit Dosanjh starrer comedy-drama Welcome To New York is receiving negative reviews from most of the critics and the audience. Despite higher star power, it remained the second choice of viewers on Friday.
On the opening day, Chakri Toleti’s directorial recorded a poor occupancy of 10-15% across India and minted the amount of only 0.60 crore at the domestic box office. Welcome To New York has to take a considerable jump over the weekend for collecting reputed numbers.
