Finally Hindi film industry has got the winner, for which is it desperately waiting from last four months. Yes, this Friday released satirical romantic drama Toilet Ek Prem Katha hasn’t only registered good opening but also getting positive reviews from most of the critics as well as audience.
Superstar Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Toilet Ek Prem Katha is inspired by true incidents endorsing the campaign Swachh Bharat Abhiyan of prime minister Narendra Modi. It’s a story where a wife leaves her loving husband just because he doesn’t have a toilet in house.
Making a full fledged film on such challenging subject is not an easy task but director Shree Narayan Singh, master mind Neeraj Pandey and team have still tried it and offered a film which entertains & gives a strong message to the society imprisoned by old tradition of defecation in open.
On the opening day, Toilet Ek Prem Katha recorded decent occupancy of 20-25% for the morning shows but picked up well post noon and did the strong business of 13.10 crores from 3000 screens across India. With this, it has emerged as the 6th highest opener of 2017 so far in Hindi cinema and 9th highest of Akshay‘s career.
Then on Saturday being weekend and due to positive word of mouth, Akshay-Bhumi starrer witnessed good growth of around 30.5% in footfalls on single as well as multi screens and minted the amount of 17.10 crores. After 2 days, total collection of TEPK has become 30.20 crores at domestic box office.
If Toilet Ek Prem Katha follows similar trend, then it can rake near 50 crores within the opening weekend. Also there is holiday on Tuesday due to Independence Day, so it also has a bonus chance to show more potential.
