After a dull opening, new offerings from Bollywood- Simran and Lucknow Central have completed the opening weekend on a below average note, while Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi remained on ground throughout. All three have received mixed reviews from critics, but due to star power the first two attracted some audience over the weekend.
One of the most talented Bollywood actresses Kangana Ranaut starrer Simran is a drama movie, directed by the promising story teller Hansal Mehta. The actress has given excellent performance as always but this time the director got failed to leave a mark on audience as well as critics.
On the opening day, Simran opened to a disastrous note and did the business of only 2.77 crores from 1500 screens across the country. On the next day i.e. Saturday, the movie witnessed 35.74% of growth than Friday and minted 3.76 crores. Then on Sunday with slight more rise, it raked the business of 4.12 crores and raised it’s opening weekend total to 10.65 crores.
On the other hand, Ranjit Tiwari’s debut directorial Lucknow Central is a prison escape drama inspired by a true incident. It stars Farhan Akhtar, Diana Penty, Gippy Grewal, Ronit Roy and many other talented actors who have given solid performances, but still due to weak script the movie received mixed reviews from critics.
On the first day, it recorded dull occupancy nationwide on 1200 screens and did the business of 2.04 crores. On the next day i.e. Saturday, the movie showed decent growth and added the amount of 2.82 crores to it’s account. On Sunday, Lucknow Central bagged 3.56 crores and raised opening weekend domestic total to 8.42 crores.
The last one, Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi is a romantic comedy and starring Rishi Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Vir Das and Payal Ghosh. On the opening day, it did the business of only 0.50 crore. Due to mixed critics reviews and low footfalls, the movie remained dull over the weekend and minted 0.60 crore on Saturday and 0.65 crore on Sunday. With this, it’s first weekend total has become 1.75 crore.
