Undoubtedly director Neeraj Pandey is the master of thriller films, but this time he missed it partly. His new offering Aiyaary got failed to impress most of the audience as well as critics and registered a disappointing opening weekend at the box office. It opened to a dull note and witnessed minimal growth over the weekend.
Starring Sidharth Malhotra, Manoj Bajpayee, Rakul Preet Singh, and Pooja Chopra, Aiyaary was buzzing among audience since last year, due to the association of Neeraj Pandey ofcourse. Being highly anticipated, it was expected to perform at least close to his 2013’s hit crime thriller Special 26.
Keeping all the early estimations aside, Aiyaary got a poor response at the box office on Friday. It recorded an occupancy of only 20-25% on 1754 screens across India and did the business of 3.36 crores, which is even lesser than Sidharth Malhotra’s Ittefaq (4.05 crores) and A Gentleman (4.04 crores).
On Saturday, this crime thriller took slight jump due to a weekend and minted the amount of 4.05 crores. Then on Sunday, with further increase in footfalls, it bagged the amount of 4.35 crores and raised its first weekend total collection to 11.76 crores at the domestic box office.
On the other hand, Hollywood offering Black Panther has registered an excellent opening weekend at the Indian box office. In just 3 days, it has garnered the business of total 19.35 crores that included 0.35 crore of Thursday’s limited paid previews, 5.25 crores of Friday, 6.65 crores of Saturday and 7.10 crores of Sunday.
