The highly anticipated new Hindi offering Gold has finally grossed over 100 crores total at the domestic box office. Superstar Akshay Kumar starrer has crossed the mark within 7 days of release despite having John Abraham’s much-awaited Satyameva Jayate in its parallel, which has a solid hold over the single screen audience being a masala entertainer.
Directed by Reema Kagti, Gold is based on India’s first Olympic medal as an independent nation and as expected received mostly positive reviews from the critics as well as the audience for its strong content and commendable performance of the entire cast that includes Akshay, Mouni Roy, Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Kumar Singh & Sunny Kaushal.
Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani & Farhan Akhtar under the banner Excel Entertainment, this sports drama was released amid the huge excitement of fans on Independence Day. The movie opened on an exceptional note on Wednesday and registered the third highest opening of the year so far in Bollywood.
By maintaining a good pace throughout the 5-days extended opening weekend despite a major drop on day-2, Gold registered the business of 71.30 crores in its first weekend, with 25.25 crores on Wednesday, 8.10 crores on Thursday, 10.10 crores on Friday, 12.30 crores on Saturday, and 15.55 crores on Sunday.
Now it is running on weekdays and as usual, getting lower footfalls than earlier. On Monday, it faced a drop of 50.62% than Thursday and collected 4 crores. Then on Tuesday, by remaining almost steady, Gold bagged the amount of 4.60 crores and raised its 7 days total collection to 79.90 crores nett (102.43 crores gross) from 3050 screens across India.
