Taapsee’s Naam Shabana to take Better Opening than her Pink
Another actress oriented offering from Bollywood, Naam Shabana is all set to hit theaters on this Friday i.e. 31st March 2017 in Hindi, Tamil (dubbed) & Telugu (dubbed) languages. Directed by Shivam Nair, this action thriller starring Taapsee Pannu in the title role along with superstar Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher, Danny Denzongpa and Prithviraj Sukumaran in crucial supporting roles.
Naam Shabana is the prequel to 2015’s Baby, in which Taapsee had played a secondary character. But in the latest one, she is playing as a central protagonist. This is for the first time, when any Bollywood franchise is coming with its prequel. Earlier no one had ever tried to do such experiment in Indian Cinema.
Made with a controlled budget, Naam Shabana is a win-win game for the makers but as the movie is being compared with Taapsee’s last year offering Pink, so at box office it has to remain steady till the second weekend atleast. As per reports, this Shivam Nair’s directorial has reported an average advance booking across India and expected to receive 30-40% of occupancy on the opening day.
Neeraj Pandey’s this production venture is promoted on a good scale, also it has an integral presence of superstar Akshay Kumar. So it won’t be difficult for Naam Shabana to take decent opening of 4.50 – 5.50 crores on domestic box office. Movie’s further performance will depend on the reactions of audience as well as critics.
Peeping into the box office record of last year’s female oriented movies of similar genre, then Taapsee’s Pink did the opening business of 4.32 crores. While Sonam Kapoor’s Neeraj, Priyanka Chopra’s Jai Gangaajal, Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira & Vidya Balan’s Kahaani 2 had opened with 4.70 crores, 5.50 crores, 5.15 crores & 4.25 crores respectively.
