The new Hindi offerings of this week, black comedy Kaalakaandi, horror 1921 and sports drama Mukkabaaz, have completed the opening weekend on an overall dull note. Due to already existing and ruling Tiger Zinda Hai, all three remained on backfoot and got failed to divert major audience toward themselves.
Among new movies, the one which got highest response is Zareen Khan and Karan Kundra starrer 1921. Directed by Vishal Pandya, it is the fourth installment of franchise that was begun with 1920 in 2008. Due to some sort of recall value, it registered better opening than other two.
On the opening day, 1921 started the journey on a low note but witnessed slight rise from evening shows and did the business of 1.56 crore on Friday. With decent jump on Saturday, it minted 2.09 crores. Then on Sunday, the movie collected 2.80 crores and raised it’s 1st weekend total to 6.45 crores.
On the other hand, Kaalakaandi has higher star power though but still got failed to attract audience toward theaters and also received mixed reviews from viewers. Saif Ali Khan starrer opened to a dull note on Friday and raked the business of 1.25 crore.
On Saturday, it remained flat and minted 1.20 crore. Then on Sunday due to holiday, Kaalakaandi showed slight jump in footfalls and garnered the business of 1.40 crore. With this, it’s opening weekend total has become 3.85 crores at domestic box office.
The last one but not the least, Anurag Kashyap’s directorial Mukkabaaz, which was released with lowest buzz among all three but got succeed to impress viewers. Jimmy Shergill and Vineet Kumar Singh starrer opened to a low note on Friday and minted 0.82 crore.
Due to favorable remarks, Mukkabaaz took good jump on Saturday and bagged 1.51 crore. On Sunday with further growth, it reported the business of 1.71 crore and raised it’s 1st weekend total to 4.04 crores.
