Inspired by the real life of Tamil Nadu based social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, Padman has passed its second weekend on a low but steady note. Directed by R.Balki, the socially relevant drama has received very positive reviews from all the viewers as well as critics but at the box office, it is not that impressive.
Starring superstar Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, and Radhika Apte, Padman is one of the most anticipated movies of 2018 and this is why it was expected to perform similarly or close to Toilet Ek Prem Katha. On the contrary, it got failed to break the spell of existing biggie Padmaavat and showed below-than-expected performance so far.
Being non-masala offering and due to having Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s highly buzzed Padmaavat in the opposite, Padman opened to a decent note. By remaining steady on weekdays with the help of partial holidays, it did the business of total 62.87 crores in the first week that included 40.05 crores of the weekend and 22.82 crores of weekdays from 2750 screens.
Now the movie is running in its second week and passed this weekend on a below-decent note. It raked the business of 2.10 crores on 2nd Friday after a drop of 45.75% than the previous day. Then on 2nd Saturday, it took a jump of 50% and bagged the amount of 3.15 crores.
On the next day i.e. 2nd Sunday, with a further jump Padman collected the business of 3.78 crores and raised its 10 days total collection to 71.90 crores at the domestic box office. As per current trend, it doesn’t seem able to remain steady on weekdays as there is already a rush at the box office.
