The first offering of superstar Akshay Kumar in 2018, Padman has slowed down abruptly after a week and now the 100-crore mark seems out of its reach at the domestic box office. Directed by R.Balki, this socially relevant drama has impressed everyone and also gained positive word of mouth. But still struggling to maintain a steady pace in the second week.
Inspired by the real life of Tamil Nadu based social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, Padman has received huge appreciation from the viewers as well as entire Bollywood industry as it addresses the taboo topic- menstrual hygiene in a very relevant manner.
After a decent opening, Twinkle Khanna’s debut production showed fair growth over the opening weekend and remained almost steady on weekdays as well. It did the business of 62.87 crores in the first week that included 40.05 crores of the weekend and 22.82 crores of weekdays from 2750 screens.
Padman is running in the second week now and passed the weekend on a low but steady note. With a considerable drop than the previous day, it bagged the amount of 2.10 crores on 2nd Friday. Then with a decent jump, the movie minted 3.15 crores on 2nd Saturday and 3.78 crores on 2nd Sunday and raised its total collection to 71.90 crores.
Now Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, and Radhika Apte starrer is on weekdays and witnessing more drops in footfalls. On 2nd Monday, it collected the amount of 1.50 crore and then 1.25 crore on 2nd Tuesday after a further dip. With this, total 12 days collection of Padman has become 74.65 crores at the domestic box office.
