The first offering of superstar Akshay Kumar this year, Padman has received huge appreciation from the audience across the globe though, but at the box office, it got failed to garner desired numbers. Being non-masala flick, it didn’t get an acceptable response from single screens and got slowed down just after a week.
Despite a strong content and outstanding performances by the lead cast that includes Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, and Radhika Apte, Padman hasn’t got succeed to enter in 100-crore club unlike Akshay’s last social drama Toilet Ek Prem Katha. The biggie Padmaavat is the major reason behind its below-expected run.
After a decent opening, R.Balki’s directorial remained steady throughout the first week and did the business of 62.87 crores that included 40.05 crores of the weekend and 22.82 crores of weekdays. Then in the second week, it dropped by 78% and collected only 13.78 crores with 9.03 crores on the weekend and 4.75 crores on weekdays.
Now the movie is running in its third week and has newly released Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety in the opposite. In the third weekend, Padman raked the business of 2.30 crores that included 0.50 crore of Friday, 0.80 crore of Saturday and 1 crore of Sunday.
Then on weekdays, as usual, it is getting lesser footfalls in theaters than before. On 3rd Monday, the movie bagged the amount of 0.35 crore after a drop of 30% than Friday. With further decrement, it minted 0.30 crore on 3rd Tuesday.
On the next day i.e. 3rd Wednesday, Padman collected the amount of 0.20 crore and raised its 20 days total collection to 79.80 crores at the domestic box office. By this week, it will go near 80 crores mark.
