Directed by R.Balki, the socially relevant drama movie Padman took 5 days to cross the mark of 50 crores at the domestic box office. This shows, that Akshay Kumar starrer is facing difficulty to prove its potential because of the biggie Padmaavat that was released on January 25 and still has a good hold over the audience.
Debut production of Akshay’s wife Twinkle, Padman has received very positive reviews from viewers as well as critics, but at the box office, it is not that impressive. Being non-masala offering, the movie is not getting an acceptable response on single screens.
On the opening-day, Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, and Radhika Apte starrer opened to a decent note and did the business of 10.26 crores. Then over the weekend, it took noticeable growth due to positive word of mouth and bagged the amount of 13.68 crores on Saturday and 16.11 crores on Sunday.
After the weekend, the total collection of Padman was 40.05 crores. Now it is running in weekdays and being normal working days, the movie is getting lower footfalls in theaters than before. On Monday, it collected the amount of 5.87 crores after a drop of 43% than Friday.
On the next day i.e. Tuesday, there was a holiday on accounts of Maha Shivaratri, so Padman showed some jump and minted the amount of 6.12 crores. Then on Wednesday with a further growth, the movie garnered the business of 7.05 crores and raised its 6 days domestic total to 59.09 crores from 2750 screens across the country.
