The clash between two Tamil biggies Petta & Viswasam has made this Pongal festival season more important for the Tamil audience. Yes, superstar Rajinikanth & Ajith Kumar have dropped their immensely-awaited offerings on the same day and expectedly, both are getting an overwhelming response globally.
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the Tamil action-drama Petta has got succeed to live up to its huge expectations and receiving mostly positive reviews from the critics. In Tamil Nadu, Rajini starrer faced a strong competition because of Thala’s Viswasam but in rest of the country, it has diverted major audience toward itself.
On the opening day, Sun Pictures’ production took an exceptional start with many theatres tightly packed across the state. Throughout the day, Petta remained super-strong and registered the business of 13 crores at the TN box office, while 7.50 crores from other Indian states and raked total 20.50 crores domestically.
In parallel, director Siva’s new mass entertainer with superstar Ajith, Viswasam has received mixed reviews from the critics but the audience is showing huge craze towards the film. In Tamil Nadu, expectedly, Thala starrer got a higher response than Petta but faced a tough competition outside.
On Thursday, Sathya Jyothi Films’ production opened on an earth-shattering note and witnessed tightly-packed shows throughout the day in Tamil Nadu and grossed 15.50 crores. From the rest of India, it managed to collect 5.50 crores and made its first day domestic collection as 21 crores.
