On this Friday two comedy films are being released at the box office, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and Welcome To New York. After several thriller and drama films, this weekend audience will do some jaw exercise. Both the films are based on the similar genre and targeting the youth audience but have different stories to tell.
Directed by Luv Ranjan who is best known for making youth-favorite films like Pyaar Ka Punchnama 1 & 2, romantic comedy Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety has higher buzz than the opposite one. It brings the PKP 2 gang- Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha, and Sunny Singh back together, which is the major highlight of the film.
Due to the crackling chemistry, Kartik and Nushrat showed in their previous collaborations and the interesting funny promos of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, have created good hype for it among the audience. Also being produced by T-Series, it has been promoted on a wide scale.
Looking back to the previous box office records, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 registered the opening of 6.80 crores from 1400 screens and was a hit. Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is also expected to get a similar result and open to a range of 5-7 crores at the domestic box office.
On the other hand, comedy-drama set against the backdrop of IIFA, Welcome To New York has higher star power than SKTKS but still behind in terms of buzz. Sonakshi Sinha & Diljit Dosanjh starrer has big names like Karan Johar, Salman Khan (cameo), Riteish Deshmukh & more associated with it, which can help it to garner decent numbers at the box office.
Welcome To New York is the second choice of most of the audience across India though but still, it seems capable to register the opening of 2-3 crores as Diljit has a huge fan following across Punjab and nearby states. Afterward, word of mouth will decide the fate of both the films.
